Working Women’s Centre Australia (WWCA) is the national peak body for the network of Working Women’s Centres across Australia. We advocate nationally for law reform, publish research, and provide training and coordination so that every Centre can do its work well. WWCA does not provide individual legal advice or casework. If you need direct legal or workplace advice, contact your state or territory’s Working Women’s Centre. Each Centre operates independently, providing free and confidential advice and support.
Working Women’s Centres were founded by feminist unionists, and that history still shapes who we are. The first Centre opened in 1975, based inside the union movement itself, and cooperation with unions was part of our founding purpose from the beginning. Working Women’s Centres provide a safety net of services for women who are not yet members of a trade union and cannot afford a lawyer. We see our work as extending the reach of the union movement, not standing in for it.
We uphold and fight for the rights and dignity of all women. Guided by feminist values, we listen with care, create spaces where voices are heard, and honour the experiences of those facing inequality and discrimination at work.
We act with courage to challenge structures of power, fight for gender equity, and speak out against injustice, exploitation and discrimination.
We are honest, transparent and accountable.
We are part of a feminist movement that stands with all working women, especially those facing systemic injustice. We believe in collectivist action and support trade unions.
We draw from the strength of radical traditions while embracing bold ideas, fresh energy, and new gender equality strategies to transform workplaces and society.
